Team Intense Cycles at the Idylwild Spring Challenge (January 19, 2009)

What a great weekend ! The Intense XC Team rocked up at elevation in Idylwild, CA at the 3rd annual Spring Challenge! We were expecting a pretty small crowd and a fun weekend of racing at the third year of the Idylwild Spring Challenge. Up until race day thier were less than 50 people signed up to race. So we thought it would be a great way to enjoy the weekend get some super fun riding in. Well after having to postpone the race by up to an hour due to a registration line going around the parking lot. The team knew they needed to have thier game faces on. This is by far the toughest course these guys will race this year. It measured about 30 miles of really technical mountain biking trails with over 6600 ft of elevation climbing. But you are rewarded by stunning views and amazing singletrack decents. After all what goes up must come down! The Southridge decsent is over 8 miles long and technical. Super Fun!!! The race started with our fast guys in the semi pro category leading the way. In the end Robert herber took 6th spot and Denton Bowers creeped onto the podium in 5th. These guys were pulling phenomenal times. Both our guys finished right around 3 hours. Denton even dipped in the 2 hour mark with 2:57. The semi pro field was deep and talent full. The next of our racers was Chrissy Bono in the womens pro division. The womens pro division consisted of the womens single speed world champion, womens 24hr world champion, and the winner of last years grueling La Ruta De Conquistadores race. Needless to say the field was stacked. Chrissy had a fantastic race and really let her technical talents shine. She ended up on the podium in third place. Which earned her not only respect from all the other riders but $500 cash. You would think these guys would be pooped the next day. But of course Chrissy and Denton wanted to supprot the race and compete in Sundays Time Trial also. Our two riders turned up in fine fashion with high hopes and determination. By the end of the day Chrissy had taken the pro womens division and Denton took the semi pro mens division and the overall fastest time of the day! You guys are awesome! I am proud to be working with the Intense Cycles Team! Our next challenge will be coming up this weekend at Castaic Lake, CA. My hopes are high for some great finishes in our second Ca State race of 2007.
