1.
Where can I buy Spinergy wheels?
Most major wheelchair manufacturers have Spinergy wheels as an option on their order forms. If you’re ordering a new wheelchair, ask your dealer or prescriber if Spinergy wheels are an option for you.  If you want to order Spinergy wheels for a wheelchair you already have, speak with your local wheelchair dealer to see if they can order wheels for you.  Or, you can search on the internet for several on-line dealers (most will ship world-wide).
Feel free to call us if you cannot find a retailer.

2.
Which Spinergy wheels do I need for my wheelchair?
Will you be using the wheels on your EVERYDAY chair, or on your SPORT chair (for basketball, tennis, rugby, etc.)?  See recommendations below:

- EVERYDAY
You want either our NEW “Light Extreme – “LX”” our “SPOX Everyday,” or our “WIRE” wheels.  Once you’ve chosen between these three models, you will then choose between one of our three hub types (not applicable to WIRE wheels).  View this chart to see which hub each wheelchair manufacturer recommends using on their chairs. Note: Some suppliers designate this line of wheels as the “narrow hub” Spinergy wheels.

- SPORT (15+ degree wheel camber)
You want our NEW Sport light Extreme – “SLX”” or our “SPOX Sport” wheels.  These wheels withstand the forces generated in wheelchair sports, and the high wheel camber typical in wheelchair sports. Note: Some suppliers designate these wheels as the “wide hub” Spinergy wheels.

3.
Does Spinergy sell tires, axles or spoke guards?
Currently, Spinergy is only a wheel manufacturer and supplier.  Please call your local wheelchair dealer or shop the web for tires and axles.

4. Why are Spinergy spokes better than steel spokes?
Our patented use of fiber spokes has numerous benefits to the user.  Fiber spokes act as a vibration and shock dampener – 25% more absorbent than steel.  Our spokes are much lighter than steel spokes – ½ the weight.  Fiber is much stronger than steel – 3x as strong.  Combined with our custom rim and hub, it’s the highest performing and most reliable wheel design on the market.

5. How do Spinergy wheels compare to a tri-spoke wheel?
Spinergy wheels are going to provide a much smoother ride.  This means less vibration and shock reaches your body, which can reduce muscle spasms and body fatigue.  You will notice the differences immediately, and over time.

6. What tires can I use on my Spinergy wheels?
Spinergy wheels will accept any tire made for wheelchair use.  You can use 1-3/8” tires, 1” tires (recommend size if using solid “flat-free” tires), or even mountain bike tires (1.95” x 26” mtn. bike tires will fit our 25” (559) wheels).

7. My tires don’t fit, do I have the wrong size?
Chances are you have the right size.  Some tires can be difficult to install.  To be sure, look at the numbers labeled on the side of the tire.  If you have 24” Spinergy wheels, the tire should have the numbers “540” on the sidewall.
20” wheels = “451”
22” wheels = “501”
24” wheels = “540”
25” wheels = “559”
26” wheels = “590”
700c wheels = “622”
Still having problems?  Visit your local wheelchair dealer or bicycle shop and have them install the tires for you.  (Helpful tool: “Tire Bead Jack” made by Kool Stop -http://www.koolstop.com/Accessories/)

8. What axle length do I need for my Spinergy wheels?
Your axle length depends on two things: 1. Length of axle receiver in wheelchair camber tube.  2. Distance between outside of bearing to outside of bearing in your hub.  Measure these two lengths and this will give you the axle length you need.

9. Will Spinergy wheels make my chair narrower?
It is possible.  Our Spinergy “SPOX Everyday” and “Light Extreme” hubs are some of the narrowest hubs available.  The overall hub width is 79mm (3.1”) and the bearings are recessed inside the hub (vs. being flush with the outside of the hub), so the wheel actually positions itself closer to the side of your chair.

10. Why does Spinergy make three styles of hubs for the everyday wheels?
Each wheelchair is different.  Some wheelchair manufacturers require different clearance between the chair and the wheels.  We have a “standard” hub with 1.87” bearing spacing, and the “X2” hub with 2.3” bearing spacing.  The standard hub will result in the wheels positioning closer to the chair (too close for some wheelchair designs and the spokes interfere with a part of the chair).  In addition, some chairs require a 1/2” diameter bearing, while others require a 12mm bearing.  View this chart to help determine which hub you need for your EVERYDAY use wheels.

11. When should a spoke be replaced?
If a spoke is broken, replace the spoke as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the wheel.  If the outer sheath is cut the spoke is still functional and may not need immediate replacement.  However, if a spoke is more than 1/3 cut, you should replace the spoke.

12. Where can I buy replacement spokes?
Any wheelchair dealer or bike shop can special order spokes for you.  You will need to know your wheel size, wheel type and spoke color.

13. What maintenance do my Spinergy wheels require?
Keep them clean.  Occasionally take your wheels off the chair, remove the axle and wipe the bearings, hub, and axle with a dry rag.  The bearings are sealed, so you will not need to grease them.  We recommend you inspect your wheels occasionally to make sure spokes are tight, the rim is not damaged and your tire pressure is adequate.

14. What kind of air valve is this in my tire, and why doesn’t my air pump work?
There are two types of valves.  Your Spinergy wheels could have either one.

1.
Schraeder (like a car tire valve) – if you have this valve, most pumps will work.
2.
Presta (skinny valve with threaded valve-release) – if you have this valve, the gas station pump will not work unless you have an adapter (Adapter: http://www.koolstop.com/Accessories).

Most hand pumps and compressor pumps have reversible heads to accommodate either valve.  It’s not a bad idea to buy an adapter and just leave it on your wheels so it’s always there.
