"Drop A Gear and Disappear" Recap 12 and 6 Hrs Temecula SoCal Endurance Race

Spinergy Wheel Raffle Winner

The SoCal Endurance 12 and 6 Hours of Temecula race happened in our backyard this past weekend. It had one of the highest turn outs ever. Jason Ranoa, who organizes this event, said the estimated count was over 1000 people who showed up on Saturday. The good vibes flowed as industry colleagues enjoyed the day and were eager to help fellow riders out.
We saw everything from our local industry companies like Intense Cycles and Ellsworth bicycles, to hydroponic stands, and health juice bars. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and, as usual, the fellow cycling characters & comedians kept the crowd entertained as riders battled through 12 hours of grueling riding. The course was beautiful with many difficult climbs and even our own wheel technician hopped on his bike for about 50 miles to test out our new mtb LX wheels.
The start of the day was busy and packed as riders gathered for the start of the race. Many had their game faces on as they mentally prepared for a long 6 hours of riding. In the end many gave it their all, but only some finished. Your top male rider, Brian Scarbrough, finished in 5:22:41, and the top women, Lesley Paterson, finished in 5:54:01. They both endured the ride for 7 total laps.
As the sun set, everyone gathered to watch the riders return and cheer them on. But for those who thought 6 hours was not enough, there was the 12 hour ride. Many brave souls took this task on, but not all finished. In the men’s open 12hr solo run, Patrik Gunnarsson came in first with a total ride time of 11:25:48 . In the women’s open 12 hr solo run, Madeline Bemis had a time of 11:22:54. Both put in a whopping 11 laps. Overall it was a great event that was well organized by Jason Ranoa who has pushed southern California endurance sports and helped grow the sport locally. Looking forward to doing it all again this January, when the 8 hours of Temecula continues!
